Zamfara people in disturbing security, hunger, depressed situations – Group alleges

By Suleiman Adamu, Sokoto

A socio-political group under the auspices of Zamfara Progressive Movement for Peace and Development(ZAPPDE) has raised the alarm decrying how people of the state are left to suffer despite having elected representatives at the state federal and states levels.

According to the group which also expressed dismay at the state governor’s approach to handling the escalating insecurity said was worrisome and hopeless advising that something serious and urgent had to be done to rescue the state.

Chairman of ZAPPDE in the state, Alhaji Adamu Danyaula Matusgi, said in a statement on Friday while alleging that the recent achievements in the fight against banditry only existed on paper pointing out that ” as at today , residents live in fair and uncertainty by the hours.”

Hitherto, Matusgi faulted what he described as misguided information on executed projects which he allegedly said majority were untrue but mere paper record.

” Some of these advertised projects in the state are a mirage because the escalating insecurity is now affecting almost all the 14 local government areas in the state.

” We are worried that today in Zamfara, many people whose means of livelihood depend on farming can no longer go to the farm while the few ones that can have to pay bandits during planting and harvesting.

” Already, the level of education in Zamfara is abysmally low. The escalating insecurity has further worsened this situation and we all know that education is key to having a peaceful progressive society”, he pointed out.

He however, observed with concerns that rather than overheating the polity through campaigns of calumny on social media and other platforms, the survival of an ordinary man in the state should be the major concern of well-meaning Nigerians including the state government and all it represents.

He dispassionately pointed out that it wouldn’t be possible to have projects or infrastructural development when bandits were having a field day attacking, maiming, kidnapping, and killing people across the state sequel to alleged ineptitude of the government to do the needful.

” It’s disheartening to see Zamfara state government continue to ignore the chances of cooperating with federal government, especially the ministry of defense to ensure the fight against insecurity for politics reason.

” We are privy to know that the minister of state defense was ignored, rebuffed and refused to be involved in such good efforts in the fight against security challenges in the state which today, bandits are now holding many enclaves around Tsafe, Dansadau, Shinkafi, Bukkuyum, and Zurmi”, the Chairman alleged.

The group further urged the government of Dauda Lawal to focus on issues and ways of overcoming the challenges by ensuring active and result oriented synergy with political will and cohesion towards repositioning the state for growth and development.

” The governor should come to terms with reality and rally past leaders towards salvaging the situation as activities of bandits especially along roads linking
Talata Mafara to Mayanci to Bungudu including Tsafe to Magazu to Wanzamai have been taken over by them”, he mentioned.
