Governor Aminu Waziri of Sokoto state has on Monday evening declared to begin process of consultations ahead of his formal declaration to contest the 2023 presidency of the country on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) o
The former House of Representatives Speaker unveiled his position following calls by party members during an all inclusive but important party stakeholders meeting held in Sokoto by the state PDP chapter.
According to Tambuwal who is also the Chairman PDP Governors Forum said it was imperative not to turn down the calls and yearnings of PDP supporters in the state who have vowed not to rescind their decision on the need for him declare for ye country’s presidency.
The governor who is also the deputy chairman Nigeria Governors Forum(NGF) recalled that in 2011 when people approached him to vie for the Speakership of the NASS, he did not hesitate but gave them conditions as a loyal son of Sokoto state.
” My conditions were that, they should refer to and consult with leaders in the state before accepting their call which they did and we eventually succeeded and became victorious.
” Today, we are here for a similar call and have listened to party leaders, women , youths and all other party members in the state. “
On the call for him to initiate and begin the process of consultation , Tambuwal however explained that it was with the view to run and first as the party’s standard bearer and if God blesses our desires, yearnings and aspirations, will subsequently become the president of the federal republic of Nigeria.
To this end, Tambuwal added” In the name of God Almighty, the most beneficent and merciful, I have by this all important call, accept to begin the the process of consultations to run for the office of the president of the federal republic of Nigeria and God help us.”
Speaking , former Deputy Governor of the state. Mukhtari Shagari urged Sokoto people to remain greatful for haven produced tested and trusted credible leaders who made the state and nation proud as leaders.
According to him” they laid responsive and responsible records with exemplary style of leadership that advanced the state and country in many spheres .”
Shagari added” We had people like late Sir Ahmadu Bello and late Shehu Shagari all of blessed memories among other notable sons of Sokoto state who demonstrated quality leadership styles”
The former Water Resourced Minister noted that if Tambuwal succeeds, peace, unity and prosperity of Nigeria as a nation would be restored.
In the same vein, the state party Chairman, Alhaji Bello Goronyo said the call for Tambuwal to contest the 2023 presidency was a unanimous voice of the Sokoto state PDP who demonstrated their political desire in support of the political ambition of the governor.
However, prominent party chieftains including the state deputy Governor, Muhammad Manor Dan Iya, Sen. Abdullahi Danbaba Danbuwa, Alhaji Ummarun Kwabo A.A., Deputy Speaker Sokoto House of Assembly and former Minister , Bello Suleiman among others graced the gathering held at the newly commissioned party Headquarters Secretariats along Ahmadu Bello Way, Sokoto.
