The planned summit was confirmed by the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State, Peter Ahemba, who addressed newsmen in Lafia on Monday.

The meeting comes amidst heightened public concern, particularly regarding the recent closure of schools by authorities across the region due to security threats.

Ahemba explained that the Northern governors’ agenda is to “deliberate on concrete steps that could be taken to address the rising wave of kidnapping, banditry, and other forms of security threats in the zone.”

This move follows closely on the heels of a separate security parley convened by the South-West Governors, which took place at the Oyo State Governor’s Office in Ibadan on Monday. Following their deliberations, the South-West governors resolved that the time had come for the creation of state police as a definitive solution to ongoing bandit attacks.
