According to the final FIFA/Coca-Cola Men’s World Ranking of the year released on Monday, December 22, Nigeria climbed four places to secure the 38th spot globally.

This movement also solidifies their position as the fifth-best team on the African continent, trailing only Morocco, Senegal, Egypt, and Algeria.

The ranking update comes at a pivotal moment, as the Super Eagles are set to face Tanzania today, Tuesday, December 23, at the Fez Stadium in Morocco. Despite the disappointment of missing out on the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the team enters the AFCON tournament as one of the favorites.

Head coach Éric Chelle is expected to lead a high-powered squad featuring reigning African Footballer of the Year Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman, with kick-off scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Nigerian time.
