The Nigerian Senate has resolved to establish a joint committee with the House of Representatives to confront the persistent issue of xenophobic violence against Nigerians in South Africa.

This legislative team, led by the Chairman of the National Assembly, is tasked with visiting the South African Parliament to formally voice Nigeria’s grievances and pursue a lasting resolution to the crisis.
In addition to this mission, the Senate called for a formal briefing from the Minister of Foreign Affairs and a thorough review of the 2019 bilateral agreements to ensure they are being effectively implemented.
Despite internal calls to sanction South African businesses operating within Nigeria, the Senate leadership emphasized that diplomatic dialogue remains the most appropriate and urgent course of action.
