Regina Dimlong: An Exemplary Aristocrat With the Midas Touch

By Comrade Austin Asadu

The elevation of Her Eminence, Sarauniya Duhu, Mrs Regina Dimlong, PhD, FICAD, FCILG, FNIHA, MNIM, to the position of Head of the Legislative Affairs and Government Relations Unit at the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) has been described as a fitting recognition of her years of professionalism, competence and dedication to public service.

Regina Dimlong

Dr Dimlong previously served as Assistant Director of Communications and Public Affairs at the NDIC, where she distinguished herself through her experience in strategic communications, media relations and public administration.

In her current capacity, she is responsible for facilitating strategic relationships and official engagements between the NDIC and the National Assembly, as well as relevant government ministries, departments and agencies.

Her responsibilities include serving as a key liaison between the Corporation and the National Assembly, coordinating responses to legislative inquiries and committee hearings, and monitoring legislative and policy developments that may have implications for deposit insurance and Nigeria’s banking sector.

She also facilitates interactions between the NDIC’s executive management and policymakers while maintaining relationships with external stakeholders, regulatory institutions and government offices.

Observers of her career say one of the attributes that has distinguished Dr Dimlong is her emphasis on consultation and teamwork.

Since assuming leadership responsibilities, she has reportedly maintained regular interactions with senior and junior members of staff, seeking their views and encouraging participation in the achievement of institutional objectives.

For Dr Dimlong, effective leadership is not a solitary enterprise. Her approach reflects the popular maxim that while one may travel faster alone, greater distances can be covered by working with others.

Her leadership philosophy also places considerable emphasis on mentoring and leading by example. Colleagues and associates describe her as someone who encourages hard work, technical competence, professional development and excellence among those around her.

Her optimistic disposition has equally been identified as a source of motivation to members of her team. Rather than dwelling on obstacles, she is said to focus on identifying opportunities for improvement and achieving institutional goals.

A devout Christian, Dr Dimlong is also portrayed by those who know her as a person committed to compassion, generosity and fairness. Her network of friends and associates extends across ethnic, religious, cultural and geographical boundaries, while her administrative style is described as inclusive and receptive to differing opinions and perspectives.

Professionally, she has continued to strengthen her credentials through additional qualifications and membership of professional bodies. She is a Fellow of the Institute of Corporate Administration (FICAD), Fellow of the Institute of Leadership and Governance (FCILG), Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Hospitality and Tourism (FNIHA), and a Member of the Nigerian Institute of Management (MNIM).

Beyond her official responsibilities, however, it is her community-oriented activities that have attracted perhaps her most distinctive public recognition.

On December 8, 2025, Dr Regina Dimlong was conferred with the traditional title of Sarauniya Duhu by the District Head of Duhu, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi.

The honour, according to the district authorities, was in recognition of her acts of kindness, generosity and service to various segments of the community, including women, youths, children, vulnerable persons and people living with disabilities.

In a message issued in connection with the honour, Alhaji Sanusi expressed appreciation to Mrs Dimlong for what he described as her continuous support and contributions to the development and wellbeing of the community.

He specifically cited her contributions to agricultural development through the provision of modern equipment and tools, as well as assistance in the health sector through the provision of medical equipment and other health-related needs.

Her humanitarian interventions, according to the traditional ruler, have also extended to widows, less privileged families and internally displaced persons through the provision of clothing and relief materials.

The District Head further commended her contributions towards peace and security in Madagali Local Government Area, describing her service and compassion as an inspiration to the community.

The recognition has strengthened the perception among her admirers that Dr Dimlong’s influence extends beyond her professional responsibilities at the NDIC.

Those who have interacted with her in her official or private capacity describe her as approachable, hardworking and committed to helping people wherever possible.

Her story also reflects the growing importance of professional women occupying strategic positions in Nigeria’s public institutions while maintaining strong links with their communities.

At the NDIC, she is expected to continue applying her communication, administrative and stakeholder-management skills to the Corporation’s engagement with lawmakers, policymakers and other government institutions.

Her supporters maintain that her career has been built around resilience, professionalism, transparency, accountability and respect for due process.

They also point to her emphasis on rewarding diligence and competence while encouraging underperforming members of staff to improve their commitment to assigned responsibilities.

For the people of Duhu and Madagali, the title of Sarauniya Duhu represents more than a traditional honour. It is a recognition of a relationship between an individual and her community, built around service, compassion and support.

From her professional responsibilities in Abuja to her community interventions in Adamawa State, Regina Dimlong’s journey continues to attract recognition from colleagues, traditional institutions and members of the public.

For her admirers, the conferment of the Sarauniya Duhu title is another chapter in the career of a woman whose professional accomplishments and community service have earned her a place of respect both within her workplace and among the people she continues to serve.
