The National Chairman of Nigeria’s Action Alliance (AA) party, Hon. Adekunle Rufai Omoaje, has reaffirmed the unity and legal standing of his leadership, dismissing challenges from a former member as baseless.
In a statement released to the media on Sunday from Kaduna, Omoaje addressed what he described as ongoing attempts by Kenneth Udeze to mislead the public with claims of an unauthorized national convention.
Omoaje emphasized that Udeze’s expulsion from the party was lawful and has been upheld by multiple Nigerian courts, including the Supreme Court. “Kenneth Udeze remains permanently expelled from Action Alliance and has no authority to act on its behalf,” he stated, pointing to a party convention held on October 7, 2023, at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
That event, supervised by Nigeria’s Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), established the current National Executive Committee (NEC) as the party’s legitimate leadership, he said.
The chairman accused Udeze of spreading misinformation, calling his actions “inconsequential” and lacking legal weight. Omoaje also criticized INEC Chairman Mahmood Yakubu, suggesting that lax oversight has allowed such disputes to persist. “How can an outlaw, expelled and struck from our register, claim leadership?” he asked, citing a recent Federal High Court ruling that reaffirmed Udeze’s expulsion.
Omoaje urged AA members and the public to ignore Udeze’s claims, describing them as “fabrications meant to sow confusion.” He praised the party’s recent legal victories and called for unity, stating, “Action Alliance stands on integrity, democracy, and the rule of law—principles no individual can overturn.”
The dispute highlights internal tensions within the AA, a minor Nigerian political party, as it navigates leadership challenges ahead of future elections. For now, Omoaje remains confident in his position, warning against what he called the “desperate antics” of detractors.
