The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has begun negotiations with the Federal Government over its ongoing industrial action, which has paralysed academic activities in public universities across the country.

The union announced the development in Strike Bulletin No. 2, released at the weekend by the National Strike Coordinating Committee (NSCC) and signed by Dr. Christopher Piwuna.
ASUU had last Monday declared a two-week warning strike to press home its demands for improved welfare, university funding, and implementation of previous agreements with the government.
In its latest update, the union said the talks had recorded progress in several areas, including the release of third-party deductions, payment of promotion arrears, mainstreaming of Earned Academic Allowances (EAA), and resolution of issues related to the confiscation of the University of Abuja land.
ASUU also noted steps taken to address the alleged victimisation of its members at Kogi State University (KSU), Lagos State University (LASU), and the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO).
“Our members have shown exemplary commitment to the struggle. We must remain united and resolute in the few days ahead,” the bulletin stated.
The warning strike, which began last Monday, is scheduled to end next week Monday, unless negotiations yield an agreement that could bring the action to an earlier close.
