Insecurity: suspected bandits kill 15 in Illela, Goronyo communities of Sokoto state

A group of suspected bandits have unleashed separate attacks on residence of Illela and Goronyo local government areas communities of Sokoto state killing 15 people.

The bandits were said to be a notorious group operating in the Eastern axis of the state.

The disclosure was made on Monday by Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal shortly before the formal presentation of the state proposed 2022 fiscal year budget of N188.5 billion to the state Assembly.

He disclosed that no fewer than 12 people were killed in Illela while 3 were killed in Goronyo local governments between Sunday and Monday morning respectively.

Accordingly , Tambuwal condoled with the families and people of the affected communities over the sad incidents.

The governor further sought residents and other stakeholders support by cooperating with government and security agencies in the fight against banditry and other criminal acts in the state.

In a related development , a yet to be identified gunmen is said to have attacked and killed a personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), at Gidan Igwai community in Sokoto North local government area.

The incident according to an eye witness occurred on Sunday.

” The gun men stormed the area and carted away undisclosed amount of and valuables belonging to residents of the area which led to the killing of the NSCDC personnel”, the eye witness said.
