This morning, Tuesday, November 12, 2024, rumors circulated about a possible bomb planted in a section of the Terminus Market in Jos, following an explosive sound heard in the area. The incident led to widespread panic as businesses were temporarily shut down and residents were asked to evacuate as a precautionary measure.

Security personnel were stationed at key entry and exit points on Old JUTH Road (near the new Orthopedic Hospital) to control movement while a search was conducted. The anti-bomb squad from the Plateau State Police Command responded swiftly, cordoning off the area and thoroughly investigating the suspected threat.
However, in an official statement, Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang clarified that the alarm was a false one. The reported threat was triggered by individuals who mistook a pile of polythene bags for an improvised explosive device (IED). After a thorough inspection by security agencies, no explosive device was found.
A photograph from the scene shows members of the anti-bomb squad attending to the situation, emphasizing the swift and professional response by security forces.
Governor Mutfwang commended the security agencies for their prompt action and urged residents to remain calm and vigilant. He called on citizens to help uphold Plateau State’s image and encouraged them to support government efforts toward peace and stability in the region.
The governor reassured the public of his administration’s dedication to ensuring the safety and security of all Plateau citizens. He encouraged residents, particularly those in the Terminus Market area, to continue their daily activities without fear, while remaining attentive and reporting any suspicious activity to authorities for immediate action.
