LG poll: SIEC screens candidates, engages 15,964 adhoc staff for exercise in Sokoto

As screening of candidates commences today, August 8th to 15th, the Sokoto SIEC says it will engage no fewer than 15, 964 adhoc staff to supplement it existing personnel for the September 21st, 2024 local government elections.

It explained that the adhoc engagement will comprise of corps members and unemployed youths. to adequately serve the commission during the exercise.

However, ten political parties have been confirmed to participate in the polls.

The State Independent Electoral Commission Chairman, Alhaji Aliyu Suleiman disclosed in Sokoto while briefing reporters on preparations for the conduct of the exercise across the 23 LGs in the state.

Assuring the conduct of a hitch free polls , Suleiman explained that the exercise will be carried out across 3,991polling units in 244 wards of the state.

He said , at least 4 adhoc staff will be deployed to each PU to facilitate the conduct of the election which is adequately funded and will be supervised.

” The state government has provided enough to support the entire elections process. “, according to the Commission who also disclosed that it has met with 18 political parties in the state.

” We are also working in synergy with security agencies inorder to achieve a hitch free exercise as we prioritise attention on areas that are witnessing security challenges “, the Chairman said while stressing that the Commission will have to get clearance on areas with security issues before conducting polls.

He noted that there were areas that cannot be reached hence will make special provision for IDPs.
