Amidst the ongoing wave of national protest against hardship, no fewer than 400 eligible Sokoto East indigenous candidates have shifted attention to participating in the Senator Ibrahim Lamido Education Trust Fund organised aptitude test , screening and interview exercise for 100 vacancies for foreign studies scholarship in different under graduate and post graduate degree programmes at Geeta University, India.
The exercise which commenced Wednesday August 7, 2024 in two batches of 4 LGs each, attracted candidates from the 8 LGs that comprised the District which include: Isa, Sabon Birni, Illela, Gada, Goronyo, Gwadabawa, Rabah and Wurno local governments.
Senator Lamido( APC-Sokoto) , a first timer lawmaker, represents Sokoto East Senatorial District.
Speaking at the Army Officers Mess and Suites , Sokoto venue of exercise , Professor Muazu Shamaki explained that the process was intended to qualify them for selection as best candidates on merit inorder to promote excellence in medicine, nursing, electrical and electronics engineering among other viable courses.
” We will conduct the process without compromise.”
He acknowledged the remarkable strides of Senator Lamido for hugely investing in the education and development of youths in the District, a deliberate efforts to give the youths opportunity to be meaningful themselves , parent and society.
” It is said that knowledge is power, knowledge is freedom and knowledge is the backbone of development”, he pointed out
Professor Shamaki , an academician at the Usmanu Danfodiyo University , Sokoto noted that the Lawmaker had provided series of support to boost and encourage the education of constituents in addition to other basic human oriented programmes that impact his people.
” Before now, Senator Lamido had expended over N8bn to sponsor students for various courses and supported them with grants.
” We see the lawmaker as a true representative who cherishes human development and transformation especially in education and wellbeing. He is touching every aspect of human development including health”, he outlined.
” All the Senator needs is our support for his resilience and commitment to humanity”, he solicited while urging the candidates to show their individual abilities and capacities based on conviction they would be able to undertake the programmes if finally selected .
A top representative of the Indian University in Nigeria, Dr Alhassan Yusuf Ahmad said the University have always had smooth and reliable working relations with Nigeria pointing out that a number of Nigerians were studying in the university.
” We have a track record of excellent academic programmes that has provided opportunities for not only Nigerians including other nations whose students are running different programmes”, he explained.
