1. Nigeria security operatives have intercepted an oil theft syndicate in the Oporoza area of Delta state. Recall that in June, former militant leader Asari Dokubo had alleged that 99 per cent of the oil theft in the Niger Delta region is done by the Nigerian Army and Navy. However, the Nigerian Army and Navy denied Dokubo’s claim as oil theft continues to occur in the region. DAILY POST

2. The Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has directed that Mmesoma Joy Ejikeme be handed over to the State Guidance Counselor for counselling following her admission of faking her Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) result. This was disclosed in a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer of the Anambra State Ministry of Education, Nnaemeka Egwuonwu, and made available to Channels Television. He stated that in a letter to the Principal of Anglican Girls Secondary School Nnewi, Governor Soludo further directed the immediate commencement of psychological counselling and therapy sessions for Mmesoma. 3. The United Arab Emirates has ordered the arrest of a man who was filmed arrogantly telling a car dealer in a luxury showroom to sell the most expensive cars in the garage to him, Arabian Business reports. According to a report by state-run news agency, WAM, the video insults and ridicules Emirati society and incites harmful public opinion of citizens. In the viral video, an Asian man in an Emirati dress is seen attempting to buy a car worth $545,000 and other ones while being flanked by people carrying large sums of money. Meanwhile, the UAE’s Federal Prosecution for Combating Rumours and Cybercrimes has ordered the detention of the man pending investigations after being accused of abusing the internet in posting exciting propaganda that stirs up public opinion and harms the public interest. 4. Following the renewed outbreak of Diphtheria disease in some parts of Osun State, Governor Ademola Adeleke has ordered the immediate activation of the State Emergency Response Centre to curb any further spread. He also ordered the launch of contact tracing and treatment of the infected residents. The governor’s directive was issued after a situation report from the State Ministry of Health on the outbreak, which has claimed one life at Osogbo, the State capital, with other suspected cases under testing. 5. South Africa’s Johannesburg, the largest city in the country, experienced snowfall on Monday. According to South African Weather Service (SAWS), Johannesburg temperatures dropped to minus 3 degrees Celsius making it the third snowfall in the history of the town, first in 1996 then in 2012. The SAWS advised the public and small stock farmers that the very cold, wet and windy conditions may pose a risk to livestock, vulnerable crops and plants. Gauteng Metrorail said the snow affected infrastructure and its components, which include tracks, cross-over points and electrical cables. It said it forced management to suspend some trains, adding that the overhead wires experienced tension which resulted in power instability and failure. VANGUARD

6. The top-scoring candidate in the 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME), Kamsiyochukwu Umeh Precious, alongside her teachers and two other students, will share a total ₦3.25 million reward package. The cash gift was a pledge by the Chief Executive Officer and President of Erisco Foods Limited, Dr Eric Umeofia, who disclosed that Kamsiyochukwu will walk away with ₦2.5 million. The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) announced Umeh, a student of Deeper Life High School, Mowe, as the top scorer in the 2023 UTME with a total score of 360. A breakdown of her score showed that she got 99 in Chemistry, 98 in Mathematics, 97 in Physics, and 66 in English to ace the exam in style. PULSE

7. Sensational Nigerian singer, John Ighodaro, better known as Johnny Drille, has revealed the inspiration behind his hit song ‘How Are You My Friend’. He said the death of the mother of his record label boss, Don Jazzy, inspired the song. He disclosed this in a recent interview. Johnny Drille said he co-wrote ‘How Are You My Friend’ with Don Jazzy, adding that the song was the idea of the Mavin boss. DAILY POST

8. Nigeria has won the 2023 African U-21 Nations Women’s Volleyball Championship Zone 3 in Niamey, Niger Republic. Nigeria defeated Ghana 3:0 (25-10 25-15 25-10) in the finals on Sunday night to clinch the title. The girls had earlier eased past local rivals, Ghana in their first match of the tournament with a 3-0 (25-11, 25-15, 25-8) win. They continued their winning run in their second match against hosts Niger, winning 3-0 (25-4, 25-11, 25-4). The team also swept aside Benin Republic with a dominant display in their third match, claiming a 3-0 (25-15, 25-15, 25-9) win to secure a rematch against Ghana in the final. Speaking after the match, Coach Rakiya Mohammed thanked God for the victory. VANGUARD

9. The All Progressives Congress (APC) postponed its meetings of the party’s highest decision-making bodies, national caucus and National Executive Committee (NEC) to July 18 and 19 respectively. According to a statement by the party’s national secretary, Senator Iyiola Omisore, on Monday, the national caucus and NEC meetings, which were earlier slated for July 10 and 11, 2023 were shifted to the said new dates following President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s schedules as the new ECOWAS chairman. 10. Popular American actor, Jamie Foxx, was spotted by fans during a boat cruise in Chicago on Sunday. In videos making rounds on the Internet, the actor was seen waving at fans who cheered as he drove past in a speed boat. The public sighting is his first, following a medical emergency in April which kept him hospitalised for weeks. Foxx was shooting on the set of “Back in Action”, with co-star, Cameron Diaz when he was rushed to the hospital. While his family and friends kept the details of his condition a secret, they sought prayers from well-wishers. Fans got more agitated when a report went viral in May, suggesting that Jamie’s family members were preparing for the worst as his health had turned critical. However, Foxx’s daughter, Corrinne came out to debunk the rumours, stating that the 55-year-old returned home from the hospital weeks after hospitalisation and was in good health. PUNCH
