Abuja, Nigeria – March 29, 2025
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has condemned the brutal killing of a group of traveling hunters in Uromi, Esan North-East Local Government Area of Edo State, and has ordered a swift manhunt for those responsible.
A statement signed by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, described the President’s reaction as one of shock and deep concern over the tragic incident. He directed security agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force and other law enforcement bodies, to conduct a thorough investigation and ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice.
The President extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims, assuring them that the government would not allow criminals to shed innocent blood without consequence. He emphasized that “jungle justice has no place in Nigeria,” stressing that every citizen has the constitutional right to move freely across the country without fear of harm.
Furthermore, President Tinubu commended the swift intervention of Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, and local community leaders in Uromi, which helped prevent an escalation of tension in the area.
The tragic incident has sparked concerns about security and mob justice in the country, with many calling for improved community policing and better conflict resolution mechanisms to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
Authorities have vowed to bring the culprits to book as investigations continue.
