The resignation of the presidential spokesperson, Ajuri Ngelale has opened space for jostle to occupy the top position among professionals.
However, journalists from the northern Nigeria axis under the auspices of Progressive Northern Media Professionals have started rooting for Mallam Abdul’aziz Abdul’aziz to be appointed spokesman by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as replacement for Ngelale.
Ngelale had last week, willingly and officially tendered his resignation to proceed on an indefinite leave of absence even as no details were given behind his action.
The presidential spokesperson was reported to have presented the letter to the office of the Chief of Staff to the President, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila who wished him well.
In a statement issued Monday evening in Sokoto by its President, Mallam Mahmoud Muhammad, the group appealed to President Tinubu to consider Mallam Abdulaziz for the top job.
It described Abdul’aziz as a professional, who has all it takes to perform creditably, if given the opportunity.
While noting his track record, the group further described him as a forthright journalist, who handled his job with all seriousness, noting that his last assignment as Editor of Daily Trust Newspapers, remain glaring and a reference service for all to see.
Accordingly, the statement pointed out ” Mallam Abdulaziz is a team player with the chest to proactively rally other professionals in the media unit to effectively churn out information that will promote beyond the policies and programmes of government and most importantly, the image of the Presidency, if elevated as official spokesperson of President Tinubu.”
In the same vein, the group also braced for President Tinubu urging Nigerians to be patient as the present administration was committed and poised to sailing the country out of the trouble waters as the renewed hope agenda was being consolidated for the benefit of citizens of the country.
It hitherto, noted that inspite of the unpleasant happenings occasioned by current economic policies, the media professionals said the long term benefits were the end results which Nigerians must not fail to understand and acknowledged with passion.
” We have to make sacrifices to achieve success in our drive to reposition the country. It’s a collective sacrifice which must take us sometime to start reaping the gains. Mr President is working towards getting to the destination. Together we can make it better for all citizens”, the association stressed.
The media group said President Tinubu meant well for the country, and as such, concerted efforts must be geared by all in giving the administration the needed support to succeed, in its determined efforts to move the country forward.
