Southern Kaduna Peoples’ Union

Press Statement

NO AGREEMENT SIGNED BY SOKAPU IN KAFANCHAN ON 13THJULY, 2017.

Our attention has been drawn to certain press reports by a Kaduna-based radio station that SOKAPU has signed a peace pact with certain groups at a meeting convened by Global Peace Foundation Nigeria in Kafanchan on 13th July, 2017.

The report is completely untrue. SOKAPU did not sign any form of agreement with any group, body or individuals. No agreement of any nature was signed at the meeting. Groups were invited to give their brief perspectives about the attacks in Southern Kaduna as well as the way forward.

SOKAPU assured the gathering that Southern Kaduna people are inherently a peaceful, accommodating and hospitable people. Also, that SOKAPU as a Union does not condone killings of anyone-Christian or Muslim; Bajju or Fulani but will defend all persons in Southern Kaduna regardless of ethnic or religious affiliations. Other groups made their contributions. No agreement was signed. Each group spoke for itself.

While SOKAPU has always stood for peace and development of Southern Kaduna and welcomes all initiatives that will bring terrorists to justice as well as restoration of security in Southern Kaduna, however, before any peace agreement is signed, all necessary imperatives including personalities sine qua non to the success of the agreement must first be in place. The news item being peddled by the Radio station is without foundation.

SOKAPU remains resolute in pursuing its core mandate of protecting and advancing the interest of Southern Kaduna and shall not be stampeded or blackmailed into taking any contrary action by anyone.

Thank you.

Barr. Solomon Musa,

National President
