To strengthen its quest for responsive and beneficial governance to its work force and citizens, the Sokoto State Government on Thursday, constituted a 12 Member steering committee to oversee the Improve Strategic Salary(ISS) and Internally Generated Revenue(IGR) in the state.
The essence is primarily to redefine a realistic base as well tackle grey areas in the administration of salaries.
However, the composition of membership of the well thought initiative has four Commissioners including those of Budget as chairman , Finance, Environment as well Establishment.
Also listed as members are: representative of the office of the HoS, Permanent Secretaries of Ministries of Basic and Secondary Education, Health, Local Government and Finance including a Special Adviser, Akibu Dalhatu.
Inaugurating the committee, Secretary to the State Government, Mr Saidu Umar explained that the decision was informed by the urgent need to address all variance and possible discrepancies associated with the administration of workers emoluments otherwise, salary across the state.
Accordingly, Umar said other relevant stake holders like labour unions as well staff of tertiary institutions could be coopted into the committee.
He noted that over the years, there were discrepancies between salary figures and original data and records of the trio; Ministry of Finance, office of the HoS and the state Civil Service Commission respectively, which hitherto, necessitated the setting up of the committee with a view to uniformly harmonise the figures across all organs and agencies.
In the same vein, Umar added ” the fluctuating IGR in the state would also be looked into with a view to having an improved revenue. It is our hope that at the end, the desired goal will be achieved.”
” I am confident that the members have the capacity and abilities to discharge the all important assignment successfully with diligence”, he expressed
