…President Vows Justice for Victims of Borno Bombing, Plateau Lynching, and Kano Explosion
Ehis Agbon, Abuja, Nigeria — June 23, 2025
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has strongly condemned the spate of deadly incidents that have rocked various parts of the country in recent days, describing them as “unconscionable attacks on innocent lives” and vowing to bring perpetrators to justice.
In a statement released Monday, President Tinubu expressed deep sorrow and outrage over what he called a “series of tragic events” — including a suicide bombing in Konduga, Borno State; the lynching of wedding guests in Plateau State; and a deadly explosion at a scrap metal site in Kano. He called on security forces to intensify their operations and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to safeguarding Nigerians.
Borno Suicide Bombing
Describing the bombing in Konduga as a “cowardly” act, Tinubu said the attack — believed to have been carried out by a female suicide bomber — was “a cruel attempt to spread fear.” The incident left multiple people dead and many others wounded.
The President directed the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to provide immediate support to survivors and victims’ families. He also ordered security agencies to intensify operations to “hunt down and rout the remnants of Boko Haram” and prevent further attacks on civilians.
Plateau Lynching of Wedding Guests
Tinubu also condemned the killing of 12 wedding guests in Plateau State, who were lynched by yet-to-be-identified assailants while returning from a wedding ceremony. Calling it a “barbaric murder of peaceful citizens,” the President said such killings “must not go unanswered.”
He directed the Nigerian Police Force to collaborate with intelligence agencies to apprehend and prosecute those responsible. He urged the Plateau State Government to take decisive action and ensure that this cycle of violence does not continue.
“Freedom of movement is a non-negotiable right of every Nigerian,” Tinubu said. “We will not tolerate any attempt by anyone or group of people to curtail that fundamental freedom through acts of extreme violence and fear.”
Kano Explosion
In Kano State, five lives were lost in an explosion at a scrap metal facility. While investigations are ongoing, early reports suggest safety lapses may have contributed to the tragedy.
President Tinubu expressed sympathy for the victims’ families and stressed the need for “stricter adherence to workplace safety protocols.” He has directed relevant regulatory bodies to investigate the cause of the explosion and take appropriate actions to prevent future occurrences.
National Unity and Resolve
Tinubu also extended his condolences to the people of Borno, Plateau, Kano, and Kaduna States, reaffirming his administration’s resolve to restore peace and justice across the nation.
“To the people of Borno, Plateau, Kano, and Kaduna States, I stand with you in grief and resolve. We will not rest until justice is done and peace and safety are fully restored across our land,” he said.
The President concluded with a solemn prayer for the souls of the departed and for continued divine protection over Nigeria.
