The conflict stems from the NBF’s decision to establish a Professional Boxing Commission to take regulatory control of the sport—a move the NBBofC has firmly rejected.
The NBF’s proposed commission includes directorates for licensing, medical safety, officiating, and anti-doping, which the federation describes as a necessary advancement for the sport.
However, the resulting friction has led to calls for the National Sports Commission to intervene.
Minister Edun aims to consolidate the NBF’s position during this meeting before engaging with the NBBofC and other stakeholders to restore harmony and stability to Nigerian boxing.
