Court Adjourns Senator Natasha Cybercrime Trial

The trial of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan on charges of alleged cybercrime has hit another hurdle, with the Federal High Court in Abuja adjourning the matter for a lengthy period, until February 4, 2026, for the commencement of trial.

The case, which was scheduled to proceed on Monday before Justice Mohammed Umar, could not hold as the presiding judge was absent.

This marks the latest delay in the matter. The trial was previously stalled on October 21, when proceedings were disrupted due to a protest organized by activist Omoyele Sowore to demand the release of Nnamdi Kanu, who had recently been convicted on terrorism offenses.

Prior to that, Justice Umar had fixed the October 21 hearing date on September 22, after the initial trial was stalled due to an objection raised by the defendant’s legal team.

Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan was originally arraigned on June 30 on a six-count charge filed against her by the Director of Public Prosecution of the Federation (DPPF), Mohammed Abubakar.
