The President , Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria(ICAN), Malam Haruna Nma Yahaya says 2025 will be year of positioning ICAN as a tech-forward, purpose-driven, and inclusive institute, adopting a digital-first approach in all its engagements.
He said the institute is poised to position it’s drive as a dependable global regulatory brand for exploring technology and other viable means against emerging issues and trend in the accounting profession.
” We want to explore other viable means of education for our members to remain at the fore front of emerging issues and trends in the accounting profession.”
Yahaya said at the investiture of the 6th Chairman of ICAN Sokoto and District Society , Alhaji Abdulganiyu Mustapha and other Executive members held in Sokoto on Saturday while noting that the world was rapidly advancing through digital innovation.
According the ICAN President, the essence was to ensure the institute continue to be a beacon of hope for the accounting and finance profession globally where all segments of the society feel the positive impact of the body.
The ICAN to Brass added ” It will also address the professional needs of members across all levels to enable them provide adept leadership to ensure ICAN it impacts remarkably.
” It is part of our mandate to also ensure our District Societies actively execute various Corporate Social Responsibility projects. This includes our ‘Catch Them Young’ program—an”, he stated.
Yahaya who was the chairman of the occasion said ICAN would also strengthen it commitment to ensuring the enhancement of members employment , revitalise its brand for positive global perception, digital transformation its examination process among other relevant steps.
The Institute’s President represented by the Chairman Northern Zone, Ibrahim Alkali further urged the new team of executives to remain dedicated remain to the virtues that qualified them to lead the District Society by upholding the highest level of integrity and accuracy.
” These driving principles are a force very instrumental in distinguishing our members from mere professionals. I also encourage you not to renege on the various activities being carried out by the district society.”
The theme of event is :” The New Era of Tax Reforms in Nigeria: Implications , and Responsibility for Professional accountants” was presented by Nurudeen M. Bashir who explained that Nigeria’s current tax system was characterised by complications of especially multiple taxation among other critical barriers which the reform sought to address all the challenges.
Bashir said the reforms were made to strategically consolidate on the legal frame work inorder to further expand the country’s tax sources, enhance and impact on how to explore more sources of revenue generation for national development.
Earlier speaking, the Special Guest of Honour and Sokoto state Commissioner for Commerce, Trade and Industries, Haruna Abbas Bashir noted that ICAN was driven by innovation, professionalism and service to the vast communities.
He pointed out that the institute was a professional gatekeeper on ethics and standards in accountancy as well a pillar in nation building.
The Commissioner who himself is a member also noted that ICAN members in the state were valued across public and private concerns for demonstrating accountability , transparency and prudent financial management of institutions.
” We are committed to deepening professional collaboration with ICAN through enterprise development ,financial literacy for MSMEs, capacity building and economic data management.”
He stressed ” the future belongs to those who uphold integrity, pursue learning and serve with distinction”, while assuring robust partnership with ICAN in advancing the economic prosperity and professional growth of Sokoto state.
In his brief acceptance speech, the new Chairman , Abdulganiyu Mustapha acknowledged and appreciated the transparent manner with which he emerged assuring that he would foster inclusive leadership approach for transparency , accountability and strategic participation of members in governance for beneficial community service and national development.
He described his emergence as a call to collective action inorder to strengthen the path for growth and development that defined professionalism , integrity and national service for all.
” Let us embody the change we seek collectively , let us author a new chapter marked by excellence”, he appealed.
