KADUNA, May 2, 2025 — The Alumni Association of Kaduna Capital School has issued a strongly worded press release expressing deep concern over the Kaduna State Government’s reported approval of plans to sell staff quarters and convert student hostels on the historic school’s premises.
Founded in 1957 by the late Sir Ahmadu Bello, the Sardauna of Sokoto, Kaduna Capital School was envisioned as a model institution to serve students across Northern Nigeria. The alumni warn that any sale or repurposing of its facilities could severely undermine the school’s legacy, educational quality, and student welfare.
“If confirmed, this decision represents a deeply regrettable development that threatens the continued existence and legacy of this historic institution,” the alumni stated. They emphasized that removing parts of the school’s infrastructure would have “potentially catastrophic implications” not just for the institution but for education across Kaduna State.
The Alumni Association has reportedly reached out to government officials to formally voice its opposition and urge a reversal of the decision. According to the statement, the group believes the government should instead focus on revitalizing and restoring the school to its former status as a center of excellence.
“A government committed to educational development should be collaborating with stakeholders like us to restore and revitalize this institution — not dismantle it,” the statement read.
The alumni are now calling on the Kaduna State Government to safeguard the school’s heritage, uphold its mission, and protect its facilities for current and future generations.
This development has sparked broader debate among education advocates in the state, who argue that preserving historic schools like Kaduna Capital is crucial for maintaining educational standards and honoring the state’s rich educational history.
The Kaduna State Government has not yet issued an official response.
❗PRESS RELEASE❗
CONCERN OVER PROPOSED SALE AND CONVERSION OF KADUNA CAPITAL SCHOOL FACILITIES
We, the Old Students of Kaduna Capital School, have received with great concern the news that the Kaduna State Government has approved the sale of staff quarters and the conversion of hostels located within the premises of our beloved alma mater.
If confirmed, this decision represents a deeply regrettable development that threatens the continued existence and legacy of this historic institution. Kaduna Capital School, established in 1957 by the late Sir Ahmadu Bello, the Sardauna of Sokoto, was conceived as a model educational institution to serve students across Northern Nigeria. Any excision, reallocation, or commercial repurposing of the school’s premises would not only erode this legacy but also negatively impact the quality of education and overall welfare of current and future students.
Our Alumni Association has engaged relevant government officials to express our deep concerns and highlight the potentially catastrophic implications of this policy. We, along with other stakeholders, earnestly appeal to the Kaduna State Government to reconsider this course of action, which risks causing irreparable damage to the school and the broader educational landscape in the state.
A government committed to educational development should be collaborating with stakeholders like us to restore and revitalize this institution — not dismantle it. We believe that with joint effort and vision, Kaduna Capital School can once again be transformed into a centre of excellence and a source of pride for Kaduna State.
We respectfully urge the Kaduna State Government to reverse this decision and safeguard the heritage, structure, and mission of Kaduna Capital School for generations to come.
Signed
The Alumni Association of Kaduna Capital School
