Despite the setback, the Franco-Malian manager has publicly expressed his commitment to continuing in his role beyond the expiration of his current deal.

Chelle, who has led the Super Eagles since January 2025, currently has approximately six months remaining on his contract.

His long-term future at the helm remains uncertain as negotiations between his representatives and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) regarding extension terms have yet to reach a resolution.

Reflecting on his tenure, Chelle joined the World Cup qualifying campaign in March 2025.

Under his leadership, the team experienced a resurgence, securing four victories and two draws to reach the African play-offs, where they were ultimately defeated on penalties by the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Addressing the current situation, Chelle confirmed that financial discussions with the NFF are ongoing.

However, he emphasized that his primary focus remains dedicated to his coaching responsibilities and preparation for the team’s upcoming assignments.
