Abuja, January 6, 2025 – Tragedy struck the quiet community of Kuchibuyi Village, Byazhin area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), when a suspected bomb explosion occurred at the Tsangagyar Sani Uthman Islamiyya School around 11:00 AM.
The FCT Police Command confirmed that two individuals died, and two others sustained severe injuries in the incident. Preliminary investigations revealed that the explosion was caused by an improvised explosive device (IED) allegedly brought to the school by three men from Katsina who had visited the school’s owner, Mallam Adamu Ashimu.
According to police reports, the device detonated while the suspects were tampering with it on the school veranda, killing two of the men instantly. The third suspect and a female trader in the vicinity suffered severe injuries and are currently receiving medical treatment under police watch.
The school owner, Mallam Ashimu, has been detained for questioning to assist in the ongoing investigation. The FCT Bomb Squad has confirmed the nature of the device, recovering remnants of the IED from the scene.
Police operatives, including the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team and the Area Commander of Kubwa, swiftly responded to the incident following a distress call from the Sarki of Kuchibuyi. The area was cordoned off, and victims were promptly evacuated to a nearby hospital.
