The TY Buratai Humanity Care Foundation has joined millions across Nigeria and the globe in celebrating International Workers’ Day, using the occasion to commend the resilience and contributions of the nation’s labour force while calling for renewed commitment to national development and better working conditions.
In a statement to the press, the Foundation’s Chairman, Ibrahim Dahiru Danfulani Sadaukin Garkuwan Keffi/Betara Biu, described May 1 as a moment to reflect on the enduring struggles for fair wages, improved labour rights, and social justice. “International Workers’ Day serves as a platform for workers to unite, celebrate their achievements, and advocate for improvements in labour rights and welfare,” he noted.
The Grand Patron of the Foundation, His Excellency Amb. Lt. Gen. Tukur Yusufu Buratai (Rtd), CFR, and former Chief of Army Staff, joined in the nationwide celebrations, urging workers to remain steadfast and patriotic despite the challenges they face. “It is imperative to acknowledge the current challenges we face, but I am confident in our collective ability to overcome them,” he said.
Gen. Buratai emphasized the pivotal role of workers in building the nation, describing their dedication as the backbone of progress and a symbol of hope for Nigeria’s future. He lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration for its ongoing efforts to reform labour welfare, but urged the government to further increase the national minimum wage in 2025.
“The Foundation’s findings show that many workers, both at federal and state levels, are struggling to meet basic needs such as medical care and other essential expenses,” Gen. Buratai stated. “In line with the Renewed Hope agenda of President Tinubu and the vision of the APC, a wage increase will rekindle workers’ hope and boost morale.”
The TY Buratai Humanity Care Foundation reiterated its commitment to supporting vulnerable populations through humanitarian services, educational support, and social welfare programs. The Foundation affirmed its belief that all Nigerians deserve dignity, respect, and access to opportunities for a better life.
As the country marks Workers’ Day, the Foundation called on all stakeholders to unite in ensuring the rights and welfare of Nigerian workers are prioritized and protected.
