The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) confirmed on Monday that the match, originally scheduled for Sunday, December 14, in Cairo, has been moved to Tuesday, December 16, 2025.
The postponement was necessitated by FIFA’s decision that clubs can hold onto their players until Monday, December 15, 2025, before releasing them for the 35th Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco. The initial date had been set based on an earlier rule allowing for an earlier release of players.
According to a statement from the NFF Director of Communication, Dr. Ademola Olajire, the match will now be played as a practice match to allow both teams to utilize more than the standard five substitutes.
The game between the seven-time winners, Egypt, and three-time winners, Nigeria, will kick off at 8 pm Egypt time (7 pm Nigeria time) at the Cairo Stadium.
The Super Eagles are grouped in Group C for the 35th AFCON finals alongside 2004 champions Tunisia, 1978 runners-up Uganda, and Tanzania.
