Guinean Football Federation Denies Challenging Morocco’s 1976 AFCON Title

The Guinean Football Federation (FGF) has officially debunked viral reports claiming it filed an appeal with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to challenge Morocco’s 1976 Africa Cup of Nations victory.

The federation characterized the rumors as “inaccurate” and “without official basis”.

The speculation gained momentum following CAF’s recent decision to strip Senegal of the 2025 AFCON title and award it to Morocco. Online reports had suggested that Guinea was seeking a similar retrospective ruling for the 1976 tournament, alleging a “walkout” by the Moroccan team during that edition’s final round.

The 1976 tournament remains unique as the only AFCON decided by a final group stage rather than a single final match, which Morocco won after a 1-1 draw with Guinea.

The FGF’s clarification aims to distance itself from the ongoing administrative controversies currently surrounding continental football.
