Onakoya, best known as the founder of Chess in Slums Africa, shared the news in a heartfelt post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), expressing his gratitude and excitement. “Just got home to the most heartwarming surprise from my #nordmotion family—the stunning new Nord A9 SUV,” he wrote. “Hands down the most beautiful car I’ve ever owned, but even more beautiful is the love behind this incredible gift.”

The chess enthusiast revealed that the SUV was not just a gift—it was a reward for holding his ground in a match with Ajayi. “Of course the only way to get the new car was by not losing this match,” Onakoya joked.

In addition to the car, Onakoya’s brand ambassadorship with Nord Motion has been extended for another year. He praised Ajayi, calling him the “Elon of Africa,” citing the CEO’s innovation and vision as a pioneer in Nigeria’s growing automotive industry.

The SUV handover took place on May 5, 2025, and, according to Nord Automobiles, symbolized a celebration of excellence, innovation, and the shared spirit of determination.

This marks the second Nord SUV Onakoya has earned through chess. In June 2024, he was awarded a vehicle and his initial ambassador deal after defeating Ajayi in a similar match.

Onakoya has gained international recognition not only for his chess skills but also for using the game as a tool to empower disadvantaged youth across Nigeria through his nonprofit initiative, Chess in Slums Africa.
